1. Inspection
First, our professional steam cleaners will do a thorough inspection of your carpets to identify any problem areas like stains, heavily soiled areas or areas of your carpet which may have been badly fitted. We will discuss these problems with you before any work is undertaken.
2. Wet Test
Our professional steam cleaners will then perform what is known as a wet test on your carpet. This is a simple test to gain information on what may have befallen your carpet at some point in the past .We apply some water to your carpet, lightly agitate, recover the residue then test on pH indicator paper. This will let us know if any heavy chemicals have been used on your carpet in a past clean.
3. Burn Test
We will then pick a small, loose fibre from the carpet edge and then perform a “burn test” on it. All we do, is hold the fibre close to or insert it directly into a flame and observe how the fibre reacts to the flame. A natural fibre like wool will only burn when inserted directly and will extinguish when withdrawn. A synthetic fibre like polypropylene will melt while approaching the flame. By using this method we can identify which type of carpet you have and then choose the appropriate cleaning solution for the fibres. Many untrained or lazy carpet cleaners miss it out this important step in the carpet cleaning process and will attempt to clean sensitive fibres like wool with the wrong cleaning solution and so risk damaging your carpet.
4. High-Filtration Vacuum
Our professional steam cleaners will vacuum your carpets with a high filtration cleaning system specifically designed for super-high performance professional cleaning.
5. Move Large Furnishings
We will use sliders to move larger furnishings – such as chairs, tables and couches – but for insurance reasons we ask you to move smaller valuable items such as ornaments before we arrive. (unfortunately we will be unable to move heavy items like display cabinets or TV units).
6. Pre-Spot Difficult Stains
We will pre-spot your carpet for all difficult stains. That is we will carry out specialist stain removal techniques on stains which are of particular concern to you – or that we know will be difficult to remove using non-specialist techniques. We cannot guarantee to remove every stain but we are confident that, if we can’t remove it, then know one can.
